Grigory Fedoseyev is not a native Siberian taiga. He was born in the North Caucasus, graduated from the Kuban Polytechnic and only later, six years after graduation, moved to Novosibirsk and began working as a surveyor. He spent most of his life in the untrodden, hard-to-reach wilds of the Arctic and Eastern Siberia. Grigory Anisimovich took up literary work only after retiring. Soon all his friends-writers, surveyors and critics-saw that a completely original and talented writer, researcher and artist, who sees the world in his own way and reflects it in his works, had come to Russian literature. The basis of everything written by Fedoseyev is the diaries that he kept for more than thirty years. He did not invent names and surnames, but kept the original geographical names. The heroes of Fedoseyev’s books are people who shared with the author the hardships and dangers of marching life. All the stories of Fedoseyev are based on real events. The first book by Grigory Fedoseyev (1899-1968) – a collection of short stories “TAIGA MEETINGS” – was published in 1950. In the book “In the Grip of Dzhugdyr” the author tells about the extraordinary adventures of a detachment of surveyors.
